Top-tier Media Features for a Boutique Wallpaper Designer

"I reached out to Wolf Craft while preparing to launch a new collection. Moving forward in the area of PR was daunting, but I knew I wanted to get attention for my next launch and more buzz for my brand.

Before starting media outreach, Nora and Kirsten first suggested a website review. What a great suggestion! It was the honest criticism I had been needing.

Next, I signed up for their custom media kit. And in a short time, I had a TON of media success, including print coverage, exclusives, and spotlights in top publications like Business of Home and Modern Luxury.

I would recommend Wolf Craft to any design business that is looking to start an effective PR strategy."

Faye Bell is a boutique surface pattern and wallpaper designer who creates original patterns inspired by the natural environment.

With our Custom Media List & Opportunities Kit, she was able to secure three press placements in one month!

The Challenge

Secure top-tier media features with limited bandwidth & budget

With little additional help, Faye Bell designs intricate original patterns while running the business side of her boutique wallpaper brand. Faye knew that securing press placements in top design publications was an important next step to grow her business.

However, like many small design companies, she did not have the budget to hire a full time retainer PR firm. Nor did she have the knowledge to do media outreach on her own.

Our Goal

Build brand awareness for Faye Bell

When Faye got in touch with us, she wanted to foster relationships with more interior designers to grow the Trade side of her business.

Her patterns are rich in color and texture. Each design retains the aesthetic of a design first created by hand. We knew these qualities would be appealing to interior designers and the design publications they read.

Our Solution

Give Faye Bell the tools to do media outreach in-house

Our approach included two key areas:

1. Ensure Faye’s website accurately represents a high-end wallpaper brand
Before embarking on media outreach, Faye’s website needed to be updated. It still leaned “crafty” and didn’t yet represent the high-end brand that she was working to become.

As part of our Tweak & Edit PR Review service, we gave Faye specific, actionable, and affordable direction to update her website and photography. Faye took our direction and quickly updated her website to an industry standard for the publications she wanted to secure features in.

2. Build Faye a Custom Media List & Outreach Kit
With a more sophisticated, industry-standard website, Faye Bell was ready to let the media know about her work. What’s more, she had a new product launch coming up the next month!

Our Custom Media List & Opportunities Kit was the game-changer.

Her Media Kit included:

  • 30+ vetted media opportunities specific to Faye’s products and launch

  • Editor contact information for each opportunity

  • Example articles to help with pitch angels

  • Four pitch templates for specific opportunities that could be adapted moving forward

  • Four 1-1 consulting calls

Faye landed three press placements within the first month!

Below are just the start of her results:

Results

1. Improved web presence

Before

After

Homepage Before:
X
The page does not prioritize images of the wallpaper in spaces.

X The most valuable real estate on the page (the banner) does not lead to product pages.

X “Uncommon Wallpaper for Thoughtful Spaces” does not convey the hand-made artistic nature of the patterns.

X Elements lean “crafty” over high-end. Specifically the banner image and “xo Faye”.

Homepage After:
✔️
The page prioritizes in-situ images, helping clients visualize the work in a space.

✔️ Banner images are styled in-situ shots that showcase and link to specific collections.

✔️ “Completely original patterns for completely original spaces” better conveys the hand-made artistic nature of the patterns.

✔️ Overall the page feels much more elevated and luxe. Perfect for high-end interior designers and publications.

2. Amplified Exposure

"I've had a good run of responses from the Custom Media List. I landed three big features, and I have 6 upcoming features." -Faye

Our Custom Media List & Opportunities Kit opened doors to an array of media outlets, leading to not just one, but three significant features. The impact didn't stop there—with six upcoming features, the designer's work is set to shine even brighter.

Email testimonial from client Faye Bell about the success she saw from our Custom Media List service and the media placements she secured.

3. Engaging Introductions

"I sent all my intros out yesterday - a handful of kind replies and most were opened. I’ve got an in-person meeting with Modern Luxury next week!" - Faye

Crafting compelling introductions is key to PR success. With her customized pitch templates in hand, Faye’s outreach was met with positive responses. Most introductions were opened, showing the effectiveness of a personalized approach. In fact, it even led to an exciting in-person meeting with a publisher at Modern Luxury—an invaluable opportunity for direct engagement.

One of the templates you’ll often get as part of the Media Opportunities Kit, is an introduction email, where you’ll tell an editor about yourself and your business. Sometimes you don’t need a pitch to open a new editorial relationship, you just need a good intro!

3. Exclusive Recognition

"Atlanta Interiors has said they would 'really love to be the first to cover the upcoming launch of Discotheque.' This means they don't want other media sources to cover it; they want me to hold it for them." - Faye

Nothing beats being able to give an editor the exclusive on your work. Atlanta Interiors expressed their eagerness to lead the way in covering the designer's upcoming launch, "Discotheque." This not only validates the uniqueness of the designer's work but also highlights the impact of tailored media connections.
